WAYU Conference in Memory of General Qasem Soleimani

The World Anti-Imperialist Youth Union (WAYU) held an online conference to commemorate General Qasem Soleimani on the anniversary of his killing by the United States.

Young people from West Asia, Latin America, Europe and East Asia — and above all from Turkey — took part. Among the participating organisations were Patria Para Todos from Argentina, the Communist Party Youth from Switzerland, the Youth Union from Bangladesh, and the Workers and Peasants Party Youth from Pakistan.

The conference opened with a speech by WAYU General Secretary Işıkgün Akfırat and continued with a presentation by Dr Foad Izadi of the University of Tehran.

Izadi stressed that the killing of Qasem Soleimani had not weakened Iran but had bound the Iranian nation more closely together:

All oppressed nations — Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh and others — must unite against imperialism. WAYU’s contribution to this policy of unity is very valuable. Imperialism today wants to set Turkey and Iran against each other, but neither Turkey nor Iran will fall for these provocations.

Izadi added that solidarity among anti-imperialist countries reduces the effect of embargoes, and that the solidarity between Iran and Venezuela could be matched between Turkey and Iran.
